Failover Configuration

Below is an overview of our production and backup data centers:

Our backup data center is identical to our primary ones.

The failover data center is designed to increase the availability of our web services in the event of a network or routing issue. We employ two primary data centers and one backup data center.

Service Objects’ primary data center hostname is: ws.serviceobjects.com and our backup data center hostname is wsbackup.serviceobjects.com.

In the unlikely event of a server not responding, our failover protocol may be instant.

We recommend:

  • Integrating a failover configuration into your application, so no interruption is experienced on your end.
  • Using our hostnames instead of coding a specific IP address into your application. This will ensure the highest level of uptime.
    • If you’re unable to use hostname and/or your egress traffic is restricted by firewall or routing rules, ensure the following IP addresses are whitelisted:
      • 63.131.152.60
      • 206.188.16.19
      • 209.98.1.110

Alternative Configurations:

You can also abstract the actual hostname into a configuration file, in order to simplify the process of changing hostnames in an emergency. Even in the case where your application handles failover logic properly, an easy-to-change hostname would allow your application to bypass a downed data center completely, and process transactions more quickly.

For most clients, simply updating their application to use our backup data center hostname should immediately restore connectivity. Your existing DOTS license key is already permitted to use our backup data center and no further actions should be needed.

Primary data center Hostname

ws.serviceobjects.com

Backup data center Hostname

wsbackup.serviceobjects.com

In the unlikely event of a significant network failure at both of our primary data centers, we will redirect our DNS record to temporarily point to our backup data center. In this case, no changes are required on your side.
